PORT HURON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS BUILD HYDROGEN FUEL CELL CAR
PORT HURON — Students in the Principles of Engineering “Project Lead the Way” STEAM course at Port Huron High School worked together to create a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car. After recently finishing a unit aimed at learning about energy sources, the class completed the instruction with a project on energy application. This involved building and testing the power output of a hydrogen fuel cell automobile.
The students used skills they learned (building, wiring circuit boards and using motors) to build the car. They also incorporated how a hydrogen fuel cell works and used it as a battery power source to run the motor. AAA batteries were also used to power the car as a comparison. Once created, the students calculated the speed in feet per second and the power output of the hydrogen fuel cells.
Photos of the car are included.
