MATTHEW RUIZ APPOINTED TO PORT HURON SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION
Ruiz will serve in the trustee position vacated last month.
PORT HURON — After hearing from applicants and discussion at last night’s meeting, the Port Huron Schools Board of Education voted unanimously for Matthew D. Ruiz to fill a recently vacated trustee position. Joe Bixler resigned on September 25 noting an interest in “serving the community in other capacities.” The term is through December 31, 2024. There were three other candidates who applied for the Board position.
“I have worked with Matt and his family on many projects over the years and know his work ethic and passion for our school district,” said Superintendent Theo Kerhoulas. “He is a great fit and will hit the ground running.”
Ruiz is a lifelong resident of Port Huron and graduate of Port Huron Schools who expressed his intent as trustee to advocate for policies “that promote equity, inclusivity and academic excellence.” He presented a commitment to “fostering an open and transparent dialogue with the community, ensuring that the voices of the stakeholders are heard and valued.”
Ruiz’s parents are former educators in the Port Huron Area School district. He and his wife currently have children enrolled in the elementary, middle and high school levels. Mr. Ruiz works as Director of the Blue Water Middle College Academy. He formerly practiced law and has been a Little League Coach and volunteer for the St. Clair County Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program.
